Bidding Wars Expected in J. Levine’s Art of Erte Auction

Overwhelming local interest in upcoming Art of Erte Auction is expected to challenge worldwide market.

PHOENIX, Ariz. (July 09, 2018) – J. Levine Auction & Appraisal is introducing possibly the largest Erte collection to ever be seen at auction. The collection includes over 100 rare offerings of elaborate bronze sculptures, intricate wall art and rare cognac bottles. This selection has a special connection to the artist as it was accumulated by a close friend of Erte’s throughout his career.

The Art of Erte Auction is expected to ignite a few bidding wars as it has worldwide exposure and has already shown overwhelming local interest. The regular weekly auctions hosted by J. Levine boasts 13,000 registered bidders from over 70 countries, this auction is expected to trump these numbers. “We have seen substantial interest in the private auction preview and auction before we even released the catalog. When there’s this kind of excitement early on I know there will be intense bidding wars.” said Josh Levine, CEO of J. Levine Auction & Appraisal. Some of the top performing pieces are expected to be the “Prisoner of Love” bronze and the “Les Bijoux De Perles” bronze.

Erté is perhaps best remembered for the gloriously extravagant costumes and stage sets that he designed, but his work was expansive. In addition to the music-hall, Erté designed for the opera and theatre, designed magazine covers and even spent a brief period in Hollywood. Even late in his career Erté was still creating. Late in his life he recreated the iconic designs of his youth in bronze and serigraphy which reignited the Art Deco movement.
